We started on the vineyard side-farming family blocks in Marlborough and trucking fruit to local contract facilities. Thirteen harvests later, that grower grit has grown into the first modern winery in Marlborough’s Upper Wairau Valley.
Along the way we launched a small family label ‘Hillersden’. We learned from our many partners how building a strong wine portfolio was about more than just having the right wines-it’s about cultivating relationships and creating value for your clients by bringing them wines that sell. Also learning just how quickly things can erode that hard-won trust.
When the pandemic hit, we faced the reality that running a consumer brand and a production facility stretched resources too thin. We retired the label, kept the Hillersden name, and focused our resources on supporting our large-volume clients.
Hillersden started as a family project, but today it’s a team of experienced people who take real pride in getting every detail right. People who know their vineyards, know Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, and stand behind the wines they make. We know what it’s like to take pride in a label—and we’ll treat your wine as if it had our own name on it. When you reach out, you’re talking directly to the people making your wine. We work with you because we love this work, and because it means something to get it right.
As an engineer-turned-grape grower, Bruce Forlong (Hillersden’s founder) doesn’t fit the traditional mould—and that’s exactly what drives him to rethink systems and apply technology in ways that benefit both the environment and the bottom line.
